Investment Casting Process:
A wax pattern is produced by injecting wax into an aluminum die.
The wax pattern which is an exact copy of the required part is
released from the die.
The wax patterns are attached to a wax bar, called a sprue, to form
a cluster or tree.
The tree is dipped (invested) into a ceramic slurry.
After drying, the coating process is repeated with progressively
coarser refractories until a self supporting shell or mould is
A self supporting shell or mould is finished when the shell has
reach the expected thickness.
Once the mould is dry, it is heated to burn out the wax.
The tree is fired at a high temperature to cure the mould, remove
all residual traces of wax and preheat the mould for pouring.
Molten metal is poured into the pre-heated mould.
After cooling on a sand bed, the mould material is removed by
vibration, chemical resolution cleaning, or mechanical blasting.
Parts are cut out from the sprue, lightly ground and if no
